Perioperative Nurse Educator

As an RN Educator for perioperative services at Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, you will lead unit-based education for OR nurses and support staff in a mission-driven, safety-net setting. You will design, deliver, and evaluate orientation, ongoing competencies, and evidence-based practice initiatives that enhance safety, quality, and culturally responsive care. Partnering with nursing leadership, surgeons, and interdisciplinary teams, you will mentor staff, support practice changes, and advance health equity for South Los Angeles' diverse, underserved community.

Responsibilities

• Provide unit-based perioperative education for nursing staff in the operating room and related areas
• Develop, implement, and evaluate orientation and continuing education programs for perioperative RNs and support staff
• Assess staff competencies and learning needs; create individualized development plans
• Serve as a clinical resource on perioperative best practices, safety, and infection prevention
• Collaborate with nurse leaders, surgeons, and interdisciplinary teams to improve outcomes and workflows
• Support implementation of evidence-based practices and new technologies in perioperative services
• Ensure education and practice align with regulatory, accreditation, and hospital policies
• Precept and mentor new hires, new graduates, and cross-training nurses into perioperative roles
• Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and data-driven performance reviews
• Promote a culture of compassion, health equity, and culturally responsive care for diverse patients
