Reporting to the export customs manager, the export customs supervisors role is to ensure the daily operations of the export customs team are conducted in an efficient and effective manner whilst adhering to, and complying with, company and external authority customs requirements and legislation. With a primary focus on clearances for road movements, the supervisor is charged with ensuring a quality service is provided to all customers using a variety of export clearance methods. A key purpose of the role is to ensure the effective integration of new team members and to optimise the performance of individuals through review and refinement of processes.Key Responsibilities:
Proactively supervise the export customs team effectively in a dynamic and challenging environment Effectively manage the day to day operations of the export department in the absence of the Export Customs Manager Responding to requests for customs services providing effective and efficient solutions to facilitate adherence to operational and service deadlines Continually reviewing processes to strive for efficiencies without compromising the service level and/ or quality of work administered To give the team of export declarants focus and allocate daily tasks where necessary Accountable for the general day to day management of the declarations assigned to the team To produce, analyse and manage identified Key Performance Indicators for the customs activities and ensure that targets are met Responsible for ensuring the team meet their objectives Supporting the department to resolve day to day issues and queries Liaising with export supervisors from other shifts to ensure a frictionless handover and effective completion of the overall workload Ensuring compliance of standard operating procedures for Customs and AEO processes Collaboration with internal customers to maximise synergies and promote cross team and branch interactions and communications Direct liaison with the Export Customs Manager Direct liaison with external customers where required Direct liaison with Customs authorities such as HMRC and other agencies as and when necessary including, but not limited to, Border Force and DEFRA Direct liaison with Head Office Kempten with regard to various customs matters when necessary Promote the Dachser values in the team work ethic Absence management and recording Staff coaching, monitoring and appraisal and the integration of team Ensure the Dachser Health and Safety policy, processes, procedures and other mandatory processes such as BRC & ISO9001 are maintained, reviewed and effectively managed. Develop and maintain a pro-active and safe Health and Safety environment and culture in conjunction with branch and central Health and Safety representatives. Ensure that all employees under your control adhere to all Health and Safety practices at all times.
Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory role
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a customs related role
  • Good educational background
  • Good knowledge of Third country customs regulations
  • Good comprehension of Customs procedures and formalities
  • Working knowledge of and familiarity with UK CDS system and proprietary software systems
  • Familiar with Microsoft Outlook programs and ASM Sequoia
  • An awareness of global geography
  • Leadership skills with proven track record
  • Highly adaptable and able to work under pressurised situations
  • Self-motivated and ability to take responsibility to resolve issues efficiently and effectively Excellent problem solving and analysis skills Attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt their style and language (verbal and written) to suit the customer, department or level that they are dealing with
