Structural Steel Detail Checker - Construction

Ben's Structural Fabrication Inc. seeks a Steel Model Checker to review and verify structural steel shop and erection drawings for commercial and residential projects across New England. You'll check dimensions, connections, weld symbols, and member sizes for accuracy and compliance with contract documents, codes, and AISC/AWS standards. Working closely with detailers, project managers, fabricators, and field crews, you'll flag discrepancies, coordinate revisions, and support safe, efficient fabrication and installation in a hands-on, team-oriented shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Review and check structural steel shop and erection drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contract documents and building codes
• Verify dimensions, connections, weld symbols, and member sizes against engineering drawings and specifications
• Identify clashes, design discrepancies, and constructability issues and communicate clearly with detailers, project managers, and shop staff
• Coordinate revisions, RFIs, and drawing transmittals to ensure current information is used in fabrication and installation
• Work with fabricators and installers to resolve field issues and ensure drawings support safe, efficient fabrication and erection
• Maintain organized drawing logs, revision histories, and digital files to support project documentation and QA/QCUse 2
• D/3
• D CAD or modeling software and industry standards (AISC, AWS) in daily checking work
• Contribute to continuous improvement of checking standards, templates, and workflows in the shop
