Job Description

Job Description

If you're a Tax-driven Trusts and Estates Lawyer in Chicago, here's a rare combination: a group PLANNING its LEADERSHIP SUCCESSION and a PATH TO PARTNERSHIP within a year.

Our client, a respected full-service law firm with a long-standing private wealth practice, is adding a Senior Attorney at the Counsel level in Chicago. This is a growth hire, not a backfill. The group is planning for its next generation of leadership, and this role is built to be part of it.

The opportunity

  • A clear path to partnership, with consideration expected within the first year
  • A seat at the table as the group plans its leadership succession
  • The chance to take on senior client relationships as they transition
  • A leading role in mentoring and developing the group's up-and-coming associates

The work

  • Designing advanced wealth transfer strategies for wealthy individuals, multigenerational families, family offices, and owners of privately held companies
  • Advising on the full transfer-tax picture (estate, gift, and GST) as well as income tax issues for trusts and estates
  • Guiding trustees and executors through administration and the tax questions that come with it
  • Planning ownership and leadership transitions for family-owned businesses
  • Training junior associates on technical tax issues and client service

What they're looking for

  • 8+ years in trusts and estates, with a practice built on tax
  • Deep technical command of transfer tax and fiduciary income tax
  • A track record as the go-to advisor for sophisticated clients and their families
  • A genuine interest in teaching and building the next generation of the practice
  • Active Illinois bar license (required)

Compensation: $300,000 - $400,000 base, commensurate with experience
