Job Description
Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) seeks a dependable School Bus Driver to safely transport diverse groups of students to and from schools and activities across Wake County. Based in our Transportation & Logistics department, this role is critical to student access, safety, and daily learning. The driver will operate a school bus along assigned routes, perform pre- and post-trip inspections, manage student behavior positively, and communicate professionally with families, school staff, and dispatch. Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school bus to transport students to and from schools and approved activities
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report maintenance needs promptly
- Follow assigned routes and schedules while adapting safely to traffic and weather conditions
- Maintain orderly, respectful student behavior using WCPSS policies and positive strategies
- Communicate courteously with students, families, staff, and transportation dispatch
- Respond calmly to emergencies, following established safety and evacuation procedures
- Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and district transportation regulations
- Complete required logs, incident reports, and training updates accurately and on time
Required Skills
- Commercial driving (CDL Class B with P and S endorsements)
- Safe bus operation and maneuvering
