Job Description
As an Environmental Protection Manager at Waste Management (WM), you will lead compliance and sustainability initiatives across collection, recycling, landfill, and renewable energy operations. You will oversee environmental permits, monitor air, water, and waste standards, and manage audits, inspections, and reporting for local, state, and federal agencies. Partner with operations teams to reduce risk, improve environmental performance, and support community and customer sustainability goals while promoting a culture of safety, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead environmental compliance programs across assigned sites and operations
- Manage and maintain environmental permits, records, and reports
- Monitor adherence to federal, state, and local environmental regulations
- Plan and conduct environmental inspections and audits, resolving findings
- Analyze operational impacts on air, water, and waste; recommend improvements
- Support design and implementation of sustainability and pollution prevention initiatives
- Train and advise operations staff on environmental requirements and best practices
- Coordinate with regulators, consultants, and community stakeholders as needed
- Investigate environmental incidents and lead corrective and preventive actions
- Track and report key environmental performance metrics to leadership
