Systems Development Engineer II

Lonza is seeking a Systems Development Engineer II to join our Information Technology team supporting biotechnology manufacturing and development. In this role, you will design, implement, and optimize scalable, secure systems that enable laboratory, manufacturing, and quality operations. You will build and integrate applications, data pipelines, and automation solutions, ensuring high availability and compliance within a regulated environment. Partnering with scientists, engineers, and global IT teams, you will troubleshoot complex issues, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to digital strategies that accelerate biopharmaceutical innovation and improve patient outcomes worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable IT systems supporting biotech R&D and manufacturing
• Develop and support integrations between lab, manufacturing, and enterprise applications
• Automate deployment, monitoring, and maintenance using Dev
• Ops practices and scripting
• Ensure system reliability, performance, and security in a regulated, Gx
• P-compliant environment
• Troubleshoot complex system issues, root-cause analysis, and implement preventive measures
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and cross-functional IT teams on digital solutions
• Document system designs, configurations, and validation evidence as required
• Contribute to cybersecurity, backup, and disaster recovery strategies
• Continuously improve systems, tools, and processes to enhance productivity and quality
• Support global and cross-site initiatives, sharing best practices across Lonza's IT organization
