Job Description
Insurance Defense Attorney | Charleston, SC (Hybrid) | $120,000 to $240,000 | Trucking, Premises, Construction Defect, Product and Professional Liability
Five years.
That’s how long the average attorney stays at this firm. In insurance defense, that number tells you most of what you need to know about a place.
I’m recruiting for a national insurance defense and coverage firm, hiring in its Charleston office. I’ve placed multiple attorneys with them across the Carolinas, and I keep coming back for a reason.
What you’d be defending
- Trucking and transportation claims
- Premises liability
- Construction defect, plus disputes between owners, contractors, subs and architects
- Product liability
- Professional liability, including malpractice and E&O
What makes the work different
- Coverage and defense under one roof. You see how a carrier weighs a claim before it becomes your lawsuit.
- A national platform with real carrier relationships, working South Carolina files from Charleston.
- Adjusters deal with you directly. Your calls, your reports, your name on the file.
Where you’d fit
- Associates: around $120,000. Carriers already send the work, so no book needed. You run your own files from first report to resolution or trial, with partners mentoring you toward partnership.
- Partners: up to $240,000. You bring carriers coverage and defense from one firm, backed by a national platform.
Hours and hybrid
- Billable target of 1,850 to 1,900 hours, depending on level
- Three days a week in the Charleston office. The other two, you plan around hearings, depositions and life.
You’ll bring
- South Carolina bar admission
- Associates: 2+ years of insurance defense experience
- Partners: an established insurance defense practice with carrier relationships
- Reports an adjuster can read in two minutes and act on,
One strong defense background is enough. Nobody expects all five.
