Job Description
Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Senior Weapon Systems Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and integration of advanced weapon systems for critical national security missions. You will develop system architectures, performance models, and simulations; plan and execute system-level tests; and translate sponsor needs into robust technical solutions. Working in APL's collaborative, mission-driven environment, you'll partner with experts across disciplines, mentor junior engineers, and help transition innovative technologies from concept to fielded capability.
Responsibilities
- Lead design, integration, and analysis of advanced weapon systems and subsystems
- Develop system architectures, performance models, and simulation frameworks
- Plan and execute system-level tests, evaluations, and experiments
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across guidance, control, sensors, and C2
- Translate sponsor needs into technical requirements and system concepts
- Document designs, findings, and recommendations in technical reports and briefings
- Support technology transition, risk reduction, and system maturation activities
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical peer reviews
