Job Description

Baptist Memorial Health seeks a Chief Physicist to lead radiation oncology physics services within our faith-based, patient-centered health system serving the Mid-South. The Chief Physicist will oversee all aspects of radiation therapy physics, including equipment commissioning and QA, treatment planning protocols, and radiation safety, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and compliance. This role collaborates closely with radiation oncologists and the care team to implement advanced techniques such as IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, and SBRT. The Chief Physicist will mentor physics staff, support clinical research, and champion technology innovation in a mission-driven environment dedicated to compassionate, community-focused care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all medical physics services within the radiation oncology department
  • Ensure safe, accurate calibration, operation, and quality assurance of radiation therapy equipment and imaging systems
  • Develop, implement, and maintain treatment planning protocols, dose calculations, and quality control procedures
  • Collaborate with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and therapists on complex treatment plans and technology adoption
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accrediting body regulations and maintain documentation for audits and inspections
  • Lead and mentor physics staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation
  • Drive continuous improvement, technology upgrades, and implementation of advanced techniques such as IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, and SBRTSupport radiation safety program, including shielding design, radiation surveys, and exposure monitoring
  • Participate in clinical research, protocol development, and outcomes measurement to advance patient care
  • Provide education and consultation to clinical staff, residents, and students on radiation physics and safety
