We are seeking a customer-focused, self-motivated, and team-oriented Public Health Office Assistant for a long-term contract opportunity in a primary care public health clinic setting.
In this role, you will perform essential administrative and clerical tasks vital to efficient clinic operations. Key responsibilities include patient registration, scheduling, check-in/check-out, routine follow-up calls, and referral coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Scheduling: Schedule and manage patient appointments, inform patients of visit requirements, and conduct patient reminder and follow-up calls.
Registration & Intake: Collect, update, and verify client demographic information for registration purposes. Review documentation to determine eligibility for state and federal programs.
Information Systems: Input data into health management information systems, interacting with multiple software programs to input and retrieve information efficiently.
Financial Duties: Process cash drawer transactions and balance end-of-day totals to maintain fiscal responsibility.
Records Management: Scan and index patient records into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. Handle medical record release requests and obtain proper prior authorizations per regulations.
Insurance Authorization: Assist in obtaining prior authorizations from insurance providers by compiling and submitting required documentation before services are rendered.
Clinic Operations: Prepare and compile appropriate forms for requested services to ensure smooth patient flow. Inform clients of their rights and responsibilities.
Minimum Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of full-time experience in customer service delivery and/or clerical/office administration.
o Education Substitution: Coursework credit from an accredited college or university may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of 2 years).
Licensure & Compliance: Must possess a valid Driver's License and be willing to undergo a comprehensive state and federal background check.
Residency: Must be a current resident of Tennessee (or established resident prior to start date).
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a medical front office environment.
Familiarity with medical terminology for accurate appointment scheduling and basic insurance coding context.
Working Conditions:
Location: Athens, TN (Onsite with occasional travel to surrounding counties)
Position Type: Full-Time Contract (Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 4:30 PM)
