ABOUT THE COMPANY
Independent Restoration Services (IRS) is a fast-growing disaster restoration company — water, fire, smoke, mold, and biohazard mitigation, with rebuild and roofing as expanding service lines. We operate through roughly 50 separate legal entities across 20+ states, each market structured as its own LLC with local owner-operators, supported by a shared-services back-office that provides technology platforms, digital marketing, general business and insurance industry specific business services.
We’re growing fast — launching new markets monthly — and looking for a financial leader to scale our financial operations.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Director of Finance & Accounting owns the accounting and finance operations end-to-end: monthly close across all entities, tax preparation, and partnering with executive leadership to forecast budgets, build financial plans, and analyze performance.
This is a hands-on role at a company that is still building its systems. The right person is comfortable doing the work and improving how the work gets done as the senior-most leader defining and leading our future financial operations and team development.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Multi-Entity Accounting
• Manage the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, financial statements, and month-end/year-end close across ~50 legal entities, producing accurate market-level and consolidated financial statements
• Maintain intercompany accounting — balance sheet reconciliation with capitalized assets, owner distributions, and "due to / due from" balances covering inter-market debt
• Oversee A/R aging, including a disciplined write-off and reserve methodology
• Oversee centralized payroll and insurance administration
Strategic Finance Leadership
• Develop annual budgets and financial forecasts at both market and consolidated levels; support ongoing variance analysis and strategic planning
• Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) by location and service line (e.g., gross margin, utilization, days sales outstanding)
• Track cash flow across all entities, analyze cash forecasting, and provide ownership with actionable insights on liquidity and working capital management
• Strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes to support a multi-location or multi-entity operation
Multi-State Tax Compliance
• Lead tax preparation with external CPA firm, managing 1099s, returns, and K-1 to member/owners; coordinate with and manage notices from state or federal agencies
• Own our multi-state footprint: state income/franchise tax, state withholding and unemployment registrations, and nonresident member withholding for pass-through entities
• Manage entity setup requirements for new market launches (EIN, state registrations, tax accounts) in partnership with operations and compliance
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 7+ years progressive accounting experience, including 3+ in a Finance Director, Controller, or senior accounting role
• Demonstrated multi-entity accounting experience — consolidations, intercompany transactions, and entity-level reporting
• Strong accounting platform proficiency
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• CPA (active or inactive) or CMA
• Experience with an ERP implementation or migration (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Intuit Enterprise Suite)
• Prior experience supporting a business through rapid growth and multi-state expansion
• Multi-state tax compliance experience (payroll tax, state registrations, nexus considerations)
