Manufacturing Assistant

TSG - The Sheridan Group is seeking a Manufacturing Assistant to support our Printing Media operations within the Manufacturing & Production department. In this role, you will assist with print production workflows, monitor job orders, coordinate materials, and ensure on-time, high-quality output. You'll work closely with senior staff in a collaborative, high-performance environment that values initiative and critical thinking. This position offers hands-on experience in a boutique public affairs firm, with exposure to policy-driven campaigns and integrated communications projects that shape public debate.

Responsibilities

• Assist with setup, operation, and changeover of printing and finishing equipment under the direction of machine operators or supervisors
• Prepare, load, and unload paper, substrates, and other materials for production runs
• Inspect printed materials for quality, including color consistency, registration, and finishing accuracy
• Follow job tickets, production schedules, and written instructions to ensure correct quantities and specifications
• Record basic production data such as counts, scrap, and material usage
• Support inventory control by organizing, labeling, and replenishing paper, inks, and packaging materials
• Package, label, and stage finished goods for shipping or internal distribution
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company safety and housekeeping standards
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow all safety procedures, including safe lifting and material handling
• Communicate promptly with supervisors and team members about equipment issues, material shortages, or quality concerns
• Participate in on-the-job training to develop skills in printing, finishing, and basic equipment maintenance
• Collaborate respectfully with colleagues to support a professional, integrity-driven production environment
