Job Description Job Description

(facility about 30 minutes north of downtown Lexington)

The Opportunity

Most manufacturing engineering roles are about keeping lines running. This one is about proving out what comes next. You would join the Advanced Technology department of a global, multi-billion-dollar automotive manufacturer, with a mandate to learn and confirm new technologies for vehicle manufacturing, then take them from proof of concept into production.

The focus is AI-enabled robotics: computer vision, machine learning, and sensor fusion applied to real manufacturing problems like bin picking, part handling, and inspection. You would report to the Engineering Manager, and the goal is to improve manufacturing competitiveness and reduce fixed costs across North America.

Why This Opportunity Is Worth a Look
  • Pay: $100,000-$140,000 base salary, direct hire, with a full benefits package
  • Relocation: Paid relocation assistance is available
  • Scope: Proof of concept through production deployment, not just pilots that stall in a lab
  • Technology: Physical AI, simulation tools such as Isaac Sim and MuJoCo, and a broad sensor set (RGBD cameras, LiDAR, Time-of-Flight)
  • Stability: A global company described as one that rarely lays off employees
Your Day-to-Day
  • Integrate and deploy AI-enabled robotic solutions that improve manufacturing capability, flexibility, and performance
  • Develop computer vision, machine learning, and sensor fusion solutions for bin picking, part handling, and inspection
  • Build and optimize AI models for industrial hardware, balancing latency, reliability, and compute constraints
  • Bridge modern AI Python scripts with standard industrial automation
  • Use simulation for concept validation, synthetic data generation, and Sim2Real deployment
  • Lead and support equipment trials, debugging, and performance validation through production rollout (yokoten)
  • Work with robotics engineers, controls engineers, and plant manufacturing teams to integrate AI into production systems
  • Evaluate emerging Physical AI technologies through benchmarking, supplier engagement, and industry events
  • Manage contractors who design and build testing cells
  • Present results and recommendations to stakeholders, management, and executive leadership
  • Document solutions to support future scaling
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3-10 years of experience, including demonstrated manufacturing automation deployments
  • Hands-on experience in at least two of: computer vision (detection, segmentation, 3D perception), machine learning / deep learning, or robotics
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, and ROS-based systems, with strong software engineering fundamentals
  • Deep understanding of sensor types (RGBD cameras, LiDAR, Time-of-Flight) and the ability to tune for image quality, accuracy, and performance
  • A full-stack mindset: you build complete solutions with a team, not standalone algorithms, demos, or experiments
  • Ability to ensure solutions meet safety, reliability, and manufacturability requirements, including applicable standards and internal risk assessments
  • On-site role; remote work is not available
