Jansky Fellowships

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory invites outstanding early-career scientists to apply for the 2027 Jansky Fellowships. Fellows conduct independent, original research in radio astronomy or astrophysics using world-class NRAO facilities and datasets, often in collaboration with leading international scientists. Successful candidates will design observing programs, analyze complex data, publish in top journals, present at conferences, and contribute to software, instrumentation, or data pipelines. This academically oriented role offers strong mentoring, professional development, and opportunities to support NRAO's collaborative, inclusive scientific mission.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent, cutting-edge research in radio astronomy or astrophysics using NRAO facilities and data.
• Collaborate with NRAO staff, visiting scientists, and international partners on observational or theoretical projects.
• Design and execute observing programs; analyze and interpret complex radio astronomy datasets.
• Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences, workshops, and seminars.
• Contribute to the development or refinement of software, instrumentation, or data analysis pipelines.
• Mentor students or junior researchers and participate in the broader scientific community.
• Engage in proposal writing to secure observing time and external research funding.
• Support NRAO's mission through service on committees, outreach, or collaborative initiatives.
