Container Maintenance Manager

Manager II, Container Maintenance at WM oversees the maintenance and repair of waste and recycling containers to ensure safe, reliable operations. This role leads a team of technicians, plans and prioritizes work orders, manages vendor relationships, and monitors inventory, tools, and parts. The manager develops maintenance schedules, ensures compliance with safety and environmental standards, tracks KPIs, and manages budgets. Working closely with operations, they drive process improvements, support sustainability goals, train staff, and foster a culture of safety, integrity, and inclusion across container maintenance operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise container maintenance technicians and support staff
• Plan, prioritize, and assign maintenance and repair work orders for containers
• Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules for container assets
• Ensure compliance with WM safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
• Monitor and manage inventory of parts, tools, and equipment
• Track performance metrics, maintenance KPIs, and prepare operational reports
• Manage maintenance budgets and support cost-control initiatives
• Coordinate with operations and logistics to minimize service disruptions
• Implement process improvements and standard operating procedures
• Train, coach, and develop team members to support a strong safety culture
